That is interesting. Desdemona can see souls, and can share that vision with Penric, and Gansey's is interesting in a way that is unexpected. Honestly, the closest Pen can come is the way a demon's inner self forms from impressions of its riders, but that's not correct either, because there's clearly something of the original human soul here.

Pen is going to try not to get distracted, but he might have appeared to zone out trying to figure this one out before catching Gansey sliding the notebook over. "Hmm? Oh, thank you. I can't say I recognize Welsh or Cymraeg. But here..."

Pen copied some of the Latin words down, and then wrote words in several languages under them -- Gansey might be able to identify the languages as something approximating medieval Italian, French, and Spanish/Portuguese. Pen then printed a translation in whatever they were speaking.
